YELLOW JACKETS DEFEAT SETTERS 66-63 IN FOUL MARRED
GAME
SPRINGFIELD, MA - Brittany Shields (Cold Spring,
NY/Haldane) recorded her first collegiate double-double
effort with 22 points and 11 rebounds as the Setters dropped a
tough 66-63 decision to the Yellow Jackets of American
International in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters drop
to .500 at 2-2 overall and in the NE-10, while the Jackets improve
to 5-4 and 4-1 in conference play.
American International opened up an early 20-13 lead before the
Setters rallied back. Shields led the way on a 10-2 Pace run with
six points in the streak that was capped off by a Brittany
Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) trifecta to give the Setters
a 23-22 lead with just under seven minutes left in the opening
half.
The Yellow Jackets responded with a rally of their own, using a
16-4 to push their lead to 11 with just over a minute remaining at
38-27. Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY/St.
Peter's) would hit a three-pointer in the waning seconds
to slice the Jackets lead to 40-33 at the break.
The Setters would come out firing in the second half, climbing
back into the game and closing the gap tone point at 53-52 midway
through the final period. AIC pushed their lead to nine with a 12-4
run over the next five minutes to take a 65-56 lead with 4:56 left
in the game. The Setters would battle back with a 7-1 to close out
the game but just ran out of time, falling by three points.
For the Setters, Shields had her best game in a Setter uniform
with her double-double, controlling the play in the paint for the
game. Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern)
finished with 16 points and four rebounds, while Welsome chipped in
12 points and three assists.
Pace returns to action when they host Le Moyne College on
Saturday, December 6 in Northeast-10 Conference action at 3:30 pm.
The game will be played at the Setters New York City Campus in
lower Manhattan.
