GOLDEN KNIGHTS FIRST LOSS
OF THE SEASON 82-72
LOSEY, HUGGINS COMBINE FOR 41 POINTS IN VICTORY
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Pace women's basketball
team knocked Saint Rose from the unbeaten ranks, handing the
Golden Knights their first loss of the season in a scintillating
82-72 victory this afternoon. The Setters improve to 2-1 overall
and 2-1 in conference play, while the Golden Knights drop to 5-1
and 2-1 in conference play.
In a see-saw first half battle, the Setters would take control
of the half, using a 10-2 run to build a six point lead at 22-16
midway through the opening half. Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) (Windsor,
CT/Windsor) would score on three straight Setter
possessions, hitting back-to-back three-pointers, while converting
a lay-up in the run. Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) (Bristol, CT/Bristol
Eastern) capped the rally with a bucket at the 9:15 mark.
The Setters would push their lead to as high a six points in the
half and took a 36-31 lead into the break.
The Golden Knights would battle back to start the second half,
taking a three-point lead on a three-point play at 41-38 by Lauren
Revesz with 17:40 left in the game. Kristin Connolly (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's)
(Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) answered for the Setters,
nailing a trifecta tying the game at 41 and kick-starting an 18-4
turning point rally for Pace. Freshman Brittany
Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) had six points
in the paint in the run, while Losey and Huggins each connected on
a triple to key the run. Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island,
NY/St. Peter's) hit the Setters fourth three-ball in the
run, capping the rally and giving the Setters a commanding 56-45
lead with just over 11 minutes remaining in the half. Saint Rose
would only get as close seven points with under a minute remaining
and the Setters would hold on for a major victory over the Golden
Knights.
For Pace, Losey finished with team-highs in points with 21 and
rebounds with six, while connecting on 3-of-5 from long range and
8-for-10 from the charity stripe. Huggins also continued her
breakout season with 20 points, five boards and three assists.
Shields and Welsome each posted identical lines with nine points
and five caroms.
Saint Rose was led by Revesz, who posted a double-double with 26
points and 12 rebounds on 10-for-17 shooting. Dana Brown chipped in
16 points, while Lynsey Timbrouck grabbed a game-high 12 boards.
The women return to action on Wednesday, December 3 as they
travel to Springfield, MA to play NE-10 rival American
International College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30
p.m.
