PACE FADES LATE AS THEY FALL TO SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT 84-72
LOSEY SCORES A SEASON HIGH 19 POINTS IN LOSS

NEW HAVEN, CT. - The Pace University women's basketball team dropped their first game of the year to Southern Connecticut State University 84-72.  With the loss, the Setters fall to 1-1 on the season and 1-1 in-conference; while the Owls move to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in-conference.  Pace has now dropped three of its last four contests against Southern Connecticut.

The beginning of the game was a back and forth affair as the two teams were struggling to find their offensive rhythm. Southern Connecticut eventually went on to build up a six point lead at 22-16 with 11:11 left in the first half. At this juncture of the game is where Pace found their offensive game relying on the duo of Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman), and Taylor Losey (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) as they scored 10 and 15 points respectively in the half. With Losey and Johnson leading the way the Setters went on a 20-8 run which made the score 36-30 with 1:49 left in the half. Pace went into halftime with a four point lead at 38-34.

Pace started out the second half well as they were able to maintain their lead with the score of 56-52 with 13:28 left in the game. Pace then got sloppy as they went on to turn the ball over six times in their next nine possessions which helped Southern Connecticut build a lead of nine at 67-58 with 9:35 left in the game. Pace stuck around for most of the second half largely in part to Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) efforts as she had nine points in the second half on 4-7 shooting. This was not enough though for the Setters as the Owls were on fire in the second half shooting 69% on 20-29 shooting which helped them pull away late for a 84-72 win.

The Setters got a great game from Losey as she went 8-12 from the field for a team high 19 points. Pace also had a solid effort from the freshman Shields as she just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Pace returns to action when they come home to play their home opener against Saint Rose College on Sunday, November 30th with a tip-off time of 1:30 p.m.
