Box Score PACE DOMINATES SAINT
ANSELM IN CONFERENCE AND SEASON OPENER
HUGGINS LEADS THE WAY FOR SETTERS WITH A GAME HIGH 21

MANCHESTER, NH- The Pace University women's basketball team started
the 2008-09 season off in fine fashion as they defeated Saint
Anselm College 56-40. The Setters move to 1-0 on the season and 1-0
in conference; while Saint Anselm drops to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in
conference. With the win Pace has now won three of their last four
season openers in the last four years.
The Setters started out strong with a 15-4 run to start the game.
Five different Setters scored during this run with Shiesha
McCollum (Newburgh, NY/Washingtonville) leading the way
for Pace with four points, and two blocks in the run. Saint Anselm
came back with a run of their own to make the score 15-9 with 6:05
left in the 1st half. This is when Brittany
Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) took over for Pace as she
scored eight of the next nine points for the Setters to extend the
lead to 24-11 with 4:08 left in the half. The rest of the half was
a defensive struggle as the teams went into the locker room with
Pace leading 24-13.
The second half started with both teams going back and forth
trading buckets as Pace could not extend their lead much as it was
31-19 with 16:03 left in the game. This is when Huggins came back
to life for the Setters as she caught fire scoring 10 of the next
12 points for Pace as they extended their lead to 43-22 with 11:41
left in the game. Pace then coasted the rest of the game with their
lead getting no smaller than 14 points.
Huggins finished the game with 21 points going 7-12 from the
field and 3-6 from three. The Setters also got a solid game from
graduate student Shiesha McCollum (Newburgh, NY/Washingtonville) as she finished with 11 points,
seven rebounds, and three blocks. Freshman Brittany Shields
(Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) put in a solid effort in her
first collegiate game as well for Pace as she had nine points, and
eight rebounds.
For Saint Anselm, Megan Howard led the team with 14 points going
6-12 from the field. The Hawks also outrebounded Pace for the game
with 43-38 total.
Pace returns to action when they hit the road again to play
Northeast-10 opponent Southern Connecticut State University on
Tuesday, November 25th at 5:30 p.m.
