WALTHAM, MA - The Pace University women's basketball team fell
to the Falcons of Bentley College, 63-42, tonight at the Dana
Center in a Northeast-10 Conference match. The Setters fall to 5-12
on the season and 4-8 in the NE-10, while the Falcons improve to
13-4 overall and 10-3 in conference play.
Bentley never trailed in the game as the Falcons came out
storming starting the game on a 9-0 run. Sophomore Laura
Mooney's (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) three-pointer
at the 13:31 mark ended the run making the game 9-3. Mooney's
three-pointer would be Pace's lone field goal of the half as the
Setters would only score eight points in the half. Bentley would go
into the break with a 27-8 advantage.
Pace would be unable to recover from its poor first half as the
Falcons led by double digits throughout the second half cruising to
the 63-42 victory. Senior Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) (Staten
Island, NY/St. John Villa) led all scorers with a
game-high 14 points to go along with six rebounds. Klingele also
converted her 213th career three-pointer, putting her
one away from tying the all-time record of 214 held by former
teammate Andrea Padelsky (2001-06). Mooney added nine points and
three assists, while senior Stephanie Rossmy (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) (Staten
Island, NY/St. John Villa) finished with eight points and
three assists. Freshman Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY/St.
Peter's) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Erica Kirwan recorded a double-double for Bentley with 12 points
and a game-high 14 rebounds, to go along with five assists. Kristy
McLean also dropped 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while
Vanessa Lux was the third Falcon in double figures with 10 points.
Pace finished the game shooting 19.7% (12-for-61) from the
field, including 18.2% (4-for-22) from beyond the arc. The Setters
went 14-for-19 (73.7%) from the charity stripe. Bentley finished
the game shooting 42.3% (22-for-52) from the field and 23.5%
(4-for-17) from three. The Falcons went 15-for-25 (60.0%) from the
line and also controlled the glass out-rebounding the Setters
44-41.
The Setters return to action this Saturday the 26th,
as Pace will play host to the Skyhawks of Stonehill College in a
Northeast-10 Conference match. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
The game will feature numerous promotions, including Gold Game,
Child Identification Day and Alumni Day.
