PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Pace University baseball team was shutout by the Bulldogs of Bryant University, 3-0, in Northeast-10 Conference baseball action this afternoon at Finnerty Field on the Pleasantville Campus of Pace University. The Setters fall to 14-17 on the season, 7-5 in the NE-10, while the Bulldogs improve to 17-12 overall, 10-3 in conference play. Bryant takes the season series from Pace as the Bulldogs swept the Setters in a doubleheader on Saturday April 7th.

Freshman Brent Almeida (Fairhaven, MA/Fairhaven) (3-3) was solid on the mound as he picked up the victory for the visiting Bulldogs, going 5 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit, while walking five and striking out five. Classmate Eric Polvani (Wallingford, CT/Sheehan) provided 2 2/3 innings of strong relief allowing a lone hit, while junior Adam Vuolo (Walpole, MA/Xaverian) picked up his eighth save of the season, allowing a hit and striking out one in the ninth.

Pat McKenna's (Orange, CT/Amity) triple to the gap in right center in the top of the fifth inning scored Jason Alexander (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury), who singled to reach base, to break up a scoreless game.

The Bulldogs would add another two runs in the top of the seventh to make the 3-0 final. Alexander started the two-run inning by reaching base with a bunt single down the third base line. Dave Muscatello (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) followed with a single to left center that advanced Alexander to third. McKenna would then follow with an infield RBI single to the shortstop that brought home Alexander, his second RBI of the game. Muscatello would later score on a wild pitch thrown by Dustin Corbett (Vestal, NY/Vestal) (Vestal, NY/Vestal).

Corbett (4-3) took the loss for Pace allowing three runs on eight hits, while walking one and striking out seven in seven innings of work. Michael Sheehy (Pelham, NY/Pelham Memorial) (Pelham, NY/Pelham Memorial) and MacKenzie King (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional) (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional) each provided an inning of relief. Sheehy allowed a lone hit in his inning, while King struck out two batters in his inning.

Jack Cawley (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep), Chris Brown (West Kingston, RI/South Kingston) and Joe Barracato (Westbury, NY/Clarke) (Westbury, NY/Clarke) accounted for all three Pace hits. The Setters best opportunity to get on the board came in the bottom of the fourth as Almeida walked the bases loaded. However, Almeida would get himself out of the jam as he struck Brown out swinging to end the inning.

The Setters return to action tomorrow, Tuesday, April 10th, as Pace hosts the Skyhawks of Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference baseball match up. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Finnerty Field on the Pleasantville campus of Pace University. Bryant will also be in action tomorrow as the Bulldogs travel to Manchester, NH to take on the Hawks of Saint Anselm College in NE-10 action. Also a 3:30 p.m. start.
