Box Score 2 PACE BASEBALL SWEEPS BENTLEY
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Pace University baseball team took a
twin bill from the Falcons of Bentley College, by the scores of 1-0
and 5-1, in Northeast-10 Conference baseball action this afternoon
at Finnerty Field on the Pleasantville Campus of Pace University.
The Setters improve to 18-17 on the season, 11-5 in the NE-10,
while the Falcons fall to 10-21 overall, 6-8 in conference play.
Senior Angleo Fusaro (Stamford, CT/Westhill)
(4-3) tossed a gem in the opener for the Setters going 7 2/3 solid
innings, scattering five hits, while walking one and striking out
three. Sophomore Eric Brown (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk)
finished off the shutout, picking up his fifth save on the season,
allowing just two hits in 1 1/3 innings of work.
Brian Fioretti (Huntington, NY/St. Anthony's/Bryant University)
went the distance for the visiting Falcons, allowing one unearned
run on five hits, while walking one and fanning seven.
The Setters scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the
fourth, as the Bentley third basemen was unable to field a
groundball off the bat of Neil Ross (Cortland Manor, NY/Dominican College) (Cortland Manor, NY/
Walter Panas/Dominican College), which allowed
Matt Rigoli (Parisppanny, NJ/Parisppanny) (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany), who
singled to lead off the inning, to score from third.
Bentley would strike first in game two, scoring a run in the top
of the fourth on Tom Haugh's (Andover, MA/St. John's Prep) RBI
single to right that scored Kevin Vona (Belmont, MA/Belmont), who
walked to reach base.
The Falcons lead would not last very long as Pace would go on to
put up a three spot in bottom of the fifth. Ross led off the inning
with a walk and would advance to second on a bunt single by
freshman Chris Spatkowski (Bristol, CT/Bristol
Eastern). Both runners would then advance a base on wild
pitch by Brett Fistes (South Deerfield, MA/Greenfield). Joe
Barracato (Westbury, CT/Clarke) put Pace on the board with
an RBI single to right center that scored Ross. The right fielder
was unable to field the ball cleanly, which allowed Spatkowski to
score from second and Barracato to take second. Barracato would
later come around to score on an RBI single up the middle by
Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull). The
Setters would add another two runs in the eighth on an RBI single
by Jack Cawley (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) scoring
Barracato and an RBI fielder's choice by Ted Mullen (Madison, CT/Chaote Rosemary Hall)
(Madison, CT/Choate Rosemary Hall) scoring Cawley.
Justin Kanellis (Lansing, NY/Lansing Central) (Lansing, NY/Lansing Central)
(2-3) picked up the win for Pace going six strong innings, allowing
one run on four hits, while walking three and striking out two.
Freshman MacKenzie King (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional) (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren

solid innings in relief.

earned) on five hits, while walking one and striking out five in
five innings of action.

15th, as these two very same teams will meet up once
again, this time in Waltham, MA. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00
p.m.
