KLINGELE SURPASSES 1,000 CAREER POINTS
NEW HAVEN, CT- The #3 Setters lost to the #2 seed Bentley
College, 69-61, in the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional
Semifinals. Pace ends their season at 24-9, while the Falcons
improve to 23-7 and advance to regional finals. With a two-point
basket at the 9:01 mark of the opening half, junior guard
Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) (Staten Island, NY/St. John
Villa) became the 22nd player in school history
to score 1,000 career points.
Pace built a 31-17 advantage over the first 14 minutes of play
as Klingele had a pair of threes and Hannah Sheppard (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy)
Norwich, CT/Norwich Free) added another in early action.
The Falcons rallied to cut the lead to with a 12-6 run over the
final 5:57 to trail the Setters by eight, 37-29, at the break.
Bentley opened the final period on a 10-3 run to cut the Setters
lead to one at 40-39, with 16:25 left in the game. The Setters
responded, pushing the lead back to eight points 13:40 remaining in
the game as Klingele nailed a trifecta and later hit a free throw,
while Liran Buchris (Massad, Israel/Great Neck South) (Massad, Israel/Great Neck
South) and Ashley Wallace (Oswego, NY/Oswego) (Oswego,
NY/Oswego) converted a pair of jumpers. The Falcons
rallied again, using a 14-5 run capped by a three-pointer from
Erica Kirwan to take a two-point lead at the 8:42 mark.
Stephanie Rossmy (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) (Staten Island, NY/St. John
Villa) knotted the game at 54 with a bucket with 7:31 left
in the game. Bentley closed out the game with a 15-7 run over the
final 7:05 to advance to Northeast Regional Finals, with a 69-61
victory.
For Pace, Wallace led the way with 17 points and grabbing five
rebounds. Klingele added 12 points and four boards as she joined
the Setter 1,000 point club, becoming its 22nd member.
Buchris finished with 10 points, and a game-high nine assists.
Sheppard totaled eight points and a team-high seven caroms in the
loss.
For Bentley, Lauren Moore led the Falcons with 21 points and
nine boards. Vanessa Lux tallied 17 points and six rebounds, while
Shannan Kirwan totaled 15 points, four assists and four steals.
The Setters end their season at 24-9, 15-7 in the Northeast-10
Conference. The Setters made their third consecutive trip to the
NCAA Tournament and also reached the Northeast-10 Conference
Tournament Championship game, their first in school history.
