Box Score WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO SAINT
MICHAEL'S 71-61
COLCHESTER, VT - The Pace University women's
basketball team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference game this
afternoon to the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College, 71-61,
at the Ross Sports Center in Colchester, VT. The Setters fall to
1-2 on the season and an even 1-1 in the NE-10, while the Purple
Knights improve to 4-1 overall, 2-0 in conference play.
The first half featured three ties and six lead changes, as each
team battled for control. The Purple Knights held the biggest lead
of the first half leading by seven points on two occasions. Down by
seven, 37-30, with just 42 seconds remaining in the half, the
Setters used a 6-1 run to cut the deficit to two, 38-36, on a lay
up and a free throw by Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY/St.
Peter's) and a three-pointer from Stephanie
Klingele (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa), heading into
the break. Klingele led all scorers in the first half with 16
points on 4-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc and a perfect
4-for-4 from the free throw line. Pace shot 37.5% (9-for-24) from
the field, including 41.7% (5-for-12) from three and 86.7%
(13-for-15) from the line, while Saint Michael's shot 50.0%
(14-for-28) from the field, including 16.7% (1-for-6) from three
and 81.8% (9-for-11) from the line. Allison Dunn, Logan
Pintka and Alexis Keller led the Purple Knights offense scoring
eight points apiece.
The second half featured much of the same with the Purple
Knights controlling the game. A three pointer from Laura
Mooney (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) with 12:43
remaining in the game gave Pace their first lead, 50-48, since the
9:14 mark in the first half. The lead would not last long as Saint
Michael's would score the next 11 points to take a 59-50 lead. The
Purple Knights built their lead by as many as 11, 63-52, with 7:00
minutes remaining, as Saint Michael's would cruise the rest of the
way for the 10 point victory, 71-61.
Klingele scored a game-high 23 points for Pace, shooting
6-for-13 from the field, including 5-for-9 from three and a perfect
6-for-6 from the line. Stephanie Rossmy (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) (Staten Island,
NY/St. John Villa) added 15 points and a game-high seven
assists, to go along with five rebounds. Welsome also grabbed five
rebounds to go along with eight points.
Pintka led Saint Michael's with a team-best 16 points doing most
of her damage from the charity stripe going 12-for-14 from the
line. Keller chipped in with 15 points, while Dunn added 12 points
and a game-high nine rebounds. The Purple Knights controlled the
glass out-rebounding the Setters 44 to 25 and held Pace to 32.7%
(17-for-52) shooting from the field, including 26.6% (8-for-28)
shooting from three.
Pace returns to action on Wednesday, November 28th, when the
Setters travel to Rindge, New Hampshire to take on the Ravens of
Franklin Pierce University in a Northeast-10 Conference game.
