Box Score SETTERS IMPROVE TO 11-5 WITH GEM FROM REILLY
BLOOMSBURG, PA- Pace University senior Matt Reilly (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) (Denville,
NY/Morris Knolls) struck out 10 Bloomsburg batters over eight
innings to improve to 3-1 on the season as Pace defeated
Bloomsburg, 9-4. With the win, Pace improves to 11-5 overall while
Bloomsburg drops to 3-15 on year.
The Huskies struck first, tagging Reilly for a run in the bottom of
the 1st inning. Matt Robinson walked to lead off the inning
and advanced to second on a passed ball. Rob Watlock's fly
ball to center field was deep enough to move Robinson to third and
Syril Kress followed with a single to score Robinson.
The scored remained 1-0 in favor of Bloomsburg until the top of the
3rd when Pace freshman Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) (Trumbull, NY/Trumbull) led
off with a single to left field. Joe Barracato (Westbury, NY/Clarke) (Westbury,
NY/Clarke) followed with a triple to right field, scoring
Liscinsky. Brian Hollrah (Glenwood, MD/Glenely) (Glenwood, MD/Glenely) then followed
with a single to score Barracato to put the Setters on top,
2-1.
Pace would put two more runs on the board in the 6th inning. Senior
JC Pullum (White Plains, NY/Valhalla) (White Plains, NY/Valhalla) singled to lead off the
inning. Jack Cawley (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) reached on an error
that moved Pullum to second base. Matt Castellano (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph) (Staten
Island, NY/ St. Joseph) followed with an RBI single past the third
baseman. Matt Arburr (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) then
followed with a single to second base, scoring Cawley and giving
Pace a 4-1 lead.
In the top of the 8th, Pullum started the inning by reaching on an
error and then stealing second. Cawley walked and Castellano
grounded out to the mound, while Arburr followed with a walk to
load the bases. Mike Pahira (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) then
reached on an error by the shortstop, scoring Pullum. Chris
Brown (West Kingston, RI/South Kingstown) then reached on a
fielder's choice, scoring Cawley. Liscinsky would follow with
his second hit of the game, scoring Arburr and advancing Brown to
third base, who would score on a wild pitch. Pace would score
four runs in the inning to give them a 8-1 lead.
In the bottom of the 8th, Andy Bucher walked with one out and then
scored on a single by Kress to cut the Pace lead to 8-2.
Cawley would lead off the 9th with a solo homerun to give Pace a
9-2 lead, heading to the bottom of the 9th.
Tommy Parry (Wayne, PA/Conestoga) (Philadelphia, PA/ Conestoga) relieved Reilly, but
allowed two runs, both earned, before being relieved by Setter
closer Earl Oakes (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern). Oakes struck
out Kreese with the bases loaded to end the game and pick up his
4th save of the season.
Overall, Reilly improved to 3-1 after allowed two earned runs on
six hits while striking out 10 over eight innings. Pullum,
Castellano, Arburr and Liscinsky all had two hits apiece in the
winning effort while eight different Pace hitters had a RBI.
Cawley's homerun was his 2nd of the season.
Pace returns to action when they take on Bloomsburg on Saturday,
March 25th in a 12:00 doubleheader.
