Box Score WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS SAINT MICHAEL'S, 63-55
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University women's basketball team
defeated the Saint Michael's College Purple Knights in a
Northeast-10 Conference match-up, by the score of 63-55, tonight at
the Goldstein Health, Fitness and Recreation Center on the
Pleasantville campus of Pace University. The Setters remain
unbeaten with an overall record of 5-0, 3-0 in the NE-10, while the
Purple Knights fall to 3-1 overall, 1-1 in conference play.
The Setters jumped out to an early lead starting the game on an
8-0 run, highlighted by five points from Liran Buchris (Massad, Israel/Great Neck South)
(Massad, Israel/Great Neck South). Buchris would end the
day with nine points and three assists. The Setters would use a
12-5 run in the middle of the half to take the 27-22 lead heading
into the break. The Purple Knights hung tough with the help of Jevy
Rayner, as she scored 10 of her game-high 18 points in the first
half. Rayner was 6-for-10 from the floor and a perfect
6-for-6 from the free throw line on the day, to go along with seven
rebounds. The Setters shot 37% from the floor in the first half,
while the Purple Knights shot 35%.
The Purple Knights made the game interesting as they came back
to tie the game for the first time at 40, with 11 minutes left in
the game on three pointer from Alexis Keller. The Setters, with
time, would take back control, as they would go on to score 13
straight points to take a 53-40 lead. The Setters' second half
performance was lead by Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) (Staten Island,
NY/St. John Villa), as she scored 12 of her team-high 17
points in the second frame. Stephanie Rossmy (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) (Staten
Island, NY/St. John Villa) also contributed scoring 10 of
her 15 points in the second half. Hannah Sheppard (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) (Norwich,
CT/Norwich Free) was the third Setter to score in
double-figures, totaling 12 points, while grabbing a game-high nine
rebounds.
St. Michael's would show their resilience as they shot 50% from
the floor in the second half and used an 11-4 run to cut the lead
to 57-51, but that would be as close as they would get. Adrienne
Carpenter scored all of her seven points in the second half for the
Purple Knights.
The Setters return to action on Wednesday, November
29th, when they play host to Franklin Pierce College in
a Northeast-10 Conference match-up. The game is scheduled for a
5:30 pm tip-off.
