Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Carvalho’s Second-Half Strike Lifts Setters Past Dominican N.Y.

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – In a tightly fought non-conference clash on their home turf, Pace University Men's Soccer relied on a second-half strike from Pietro Carvalho and another shutout from goalkeeper Joe Zweben to secure a 1-0 victory over Dominican University of New York. With the Saturday afternoon result, the Blue and Gold improve to 3-1 overall in their return season.

The opening 45 minutes showcased both teams' defensive organization as neither side could find a breakthrough. Dominican earned a pair of early corner kicks, but Zweben was equal to the task, stopping a shot in the seventh minute to keep the match scoreless. Both defenses stood firm heading into halftime, as the Setters and Chargers went into the break locked in a 0-0 battle despite combining for 10 total shots.

The Setters pressed early in the second half, and their persistence finally paid off in the 60th minute. After sustained possession in Dominican's half, Daniel Santos slipped a perfectly weighted ball into the box for Carvalho, who finished to put Pace ahead 1-0. The goal marked Carvalho's second of the year, fresh off his Northeast 10 Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Offensively, Pace continued creating chances to extend their advantage. Ervin Radoncic fired his fourth shot on target in the 77th minute, while substitute Kai Maor nearly doubled the lead with a strong effort to the right side that was turned away. The final whistle sealed a gritty 1-0 triumph for the Blue and Gold, who earned their second shutout of the season and improved to 2-0 at home.

Pace finished with 10 shots, including eight on goal, while Dominican totaled 13 shots with four on target. Radoncic led the Setters with a game-high four shots on frame while Zweben recorded four saves to notch his first clean sheet of the year.

The Setters turn their attention to Queens College for the conclusion of their season-opening homestand this Wednesday. The opening kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at Northwell Stadium.
