PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University Men's Soccer dropped a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night at Northwell Stadium, falling 7–1 to Queens College. With the result, the Setters move to 3–2 in the young season with Northeast 10 competition less than a week away.
The visitors opened the scoring early, converting in the 7th minute to grab the lead. Queens doubled its advantage just under 10 minutes later and continued to press forward as the half wore on. Despite shots from
Thiago Lugo and
Ervin Radoncic, both of which were on frame, Pace was unable to break through against the Knights' goalkeeper. A pair of late tallies in the 39th and 43rd minutes extended the Queens' lead to 4-0 by halftime.
The Setters made several substitutions at the break, including goalkeeper
Carson Durkin taking over in net. Queens struck again in the 55th minute before adding two more in the 67th and 72nd minutes to push the score to 7-0.
Pace continued to fight into the final stretch, earning looks from Radoncic and
Pietro Carvalho. The Blue and Gold were rewarded for their persistence in the 86th minute when
David Cruz finished off a pass from
Mohit Nigam to record his first career goal. The score cut the deficit to 7-1, which held as the final.
Cruz provided Pace's lone score of the night for his first collegiate goal. The Setters finished with seven total shots, four of which were on target.
Daniel Santos, Lugo, and
Nicolas Fisherman each added shots on goal.
The Setters will now turn their attention to conference play, opening Northeast 10 action on the road this Saturday against Bentley University. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. in Waltham, MA.
