Decorated Student-Athletes Receive NE10 Sport Excellence Awards in Respective Programs

PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Northeast 10 (NE10) Conference released their Spring Sport Excellence Award winners Wednesday morning, with Pace Athletics represented by two female student-athletes in softball and women's lacrosse. Both individuals are All-Americans in their respective sports while receiving their own personal academic accolades throughout the academic year.

To be eligible for Academic All-Conference and Sport Excellence honors, a student-athlete must have started at least half or played in two-thirds of all contests while making significant contributions and maintaining a 3.3 grade-point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.

Gisselle Garcia had a tremendous year for the Pace softball program. On the field, she is the first-ever All-American in program history (D2CCA/NFCA First Team) and earned multiple awards, including East Region Pitcher of the Year, NE10 Pitcher of the Year, D2CCA First Team All-Region, and First Team All-NE10. She also made history as the first pitcher in NE10 history to record over 1,000+ career strikeouts. Off the field, Garcia maintained a 3.73 GPA as a Criminal Justice Major and as been recognized as a CSC Academic All-District and All-American selection, in addition to earning NE10 Academic All-Conference honors.

Annie Sheehan was a dominant presence for the Pace Women's Lacrosse program, making an impact on both ends of the field. As a USA Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention and a IWLCA Second-Team All-American she tallied 62 points on 40 goals and 22 assists over 22 games. She also recorded 21 caused turnovers, 32 ground balls, and 33 draw controls. In addition to her All-American notions, she is an IWLCA First Team All-Region and NE10 First Team selection. Off the field, Sheehan posted a 3.94 GPA as a Health Science Major and was recognized as the ELITE 24 recipient, as well as an Academic All-NE10 selection.
