PLEASANTVILLE, NY - Pace Men's Lacrosse secured the three seed in the 2025 Northeast-10 (NE10) Postseason Tournament and they hosted the six seed, Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), Saturday afternoon at Northwell Stadium.
Both squads battled in the second half and the Setters surrendered their lead for the draw at 14 with three-minutes left in regulation. In the final crucial moments of the day, the Blue and Gold caged two consecutive goals for the 16-14 victory and to advance into the semifinal round next Wednesday.
Here's What Happened:
- After the opening face off, both teams could not find the back of the net for the first five minutes of play. As soon as Andrew Llamas featured the first goal for both ends, both teams' offensive momentum kicked in. The Penman neutralized Llama's goal, 1-1, but Daniel Zabbia and Jackson Bulger propelled the Blue and Gold to a two-goal advantage, 3-2.Â
- SNHU got within one of the hosts, 4-3, however, they could not surpass the Setters as they entered the second stanza with a 6-3 Pace lead.
- Pace was outscored in the second, 4-3, and the opposers sat within two at the half, 9-7. Will Danowski recorded two in the frame and Bulger his second of the game for the Setters to edge the Penmen.
- By the second half, it was essentially a clean slate with both teams tallying seven throughout. The third quarter was led by Bulger, Matt Baldino, Lee Poulin, and Declan Landers for the 13-10 advantage entering the final stanza.Â
- Jake Cenci gave the Setters a safety net lead, 14-11, but the Penmen slashed right through and equalized the score at 14 after three consecutive goals with three minutes remaining. Thanks to extra-man opportunities the Setters maintained possession for majority of the final moments of the day. Caden Hallinan controlled the ball and found Colin Reese and Landers for back-to-back goals and the 16-14 victory.
Box Score Insights:
- Danowski led all scorers with three goals while posting three helpers for six points. Bulger also tallied three goals of his own while Landers and Baldino caged two.
- Chris Bulter was the forefront of the defensive side for the Setters with four caused turnovers and James Mantione scooped eight ground balls.
- Jack Kern recorded his 10th win of the year in goal with 10 saves.
