GARDEN CITY, NY - #8 Pace Men's Lacrosse faced off with #5 Adelphi University in Garden City, NY for an under the lights Northeast-10 (NE10) contest Tuesday evening.
The Setters fell quick in the first quarter and was stuck fighting their way out of a trench for the remainder of the contest. Ultimately, the Blue and Gold dropped 16-6 in the night and was handed their first conference loss of the season.
Here's What Happened:
- The Panthers swiftly caged the first goal of the game for an immediate advantage over the Setters. The host went on to score one more unanswered until their third when Jack Cenci found the back of the net and put Pace on the board, 3-1. Adelphi posted one more goal for the 4-1 lead after one quarter and eventually met their match in the second.
- Both teams recorded three goals each for a well-matched second quarter, but due to the Panthers' opening stanza they maintained a three goal lead at the half, 7-4. Daniel Zabbia, Osei Adoma, and Declan Landers gave the squad the offensive edge in the frame and eventually slashed the lead to two but a final first half goal by the hosts put them back down by three.
- In a dagger of a third quarter, the Setters have fallen behind after being held scoreless, 13-4.
- Adelphi piled on two more in the opening minutes of the final stanza and Will Danowski broke the scoring rally for the 15-5 Panther lead. The final goal of the night was featured in an entertaining feat by Hunter Willcox who launched the ball from one end of the field to the other and was able to find the cage for the Blue and Gold's sixth and final goal of the night, 16-6.
Box Score Insight:
- Cenci, Landers, Zabbia, Danowski, Adoma, and Willcox caged one throughout the contest.
- Adoma led the team with three caused turnovers and sat tied with Jack Kern with four ground balls. Landers also recorded two caused turnovers.
- The Setters goalkeepers collectively recorded 16 saves with Kern recording nine, Jimmy Caputo with five, and Willcox with two.
