WORCESTER, MA - #4 Pace Men's Lacrosse opened Northeast-10 (NE10) Conference play Saturday afternoon verses (RV) Assumption University in Massachusetts.
After the Blue and Gold were shut out, 2-0, in the opening stanza, the Setters went on to dominate the second quarter for the 6-5 lead at the half and ultimately allowed their momentum to secure the 17-9 victory. The improve to 5-0 overall and now 1-0 in the NE10.
Here's What Happened:
- During the first quarter, the Setters posted five shots, each of them on goal, but could not sneak behind the keeper for the point. The Greyhounds recorded their third of the game to ignite the second and Declan Landers got the Blue and Gold on the board soon after, 3-1, for the momentum shift.
- Once the hosts made it 4-1, Daniel Zabbia and Jake Cenci caged a goal apiece to sit within one, 4-3. To end the first half, Landers, James Mantione, and Matt Baldino assisted in capturing the 6-5 lead on three unanswered goals.
- The Greyhounds equalized the score at 6 within the opening seconds of the second half. Landers tallied his third of the day to give the Setters back the one point lead, 7-6, and Dennis Hodge-Boccanfuso caged his first of his collegiate career to edge the Greyhounds, 8-6.
- With the Setters holding the 11-8 lead heading into the final frame of the afternoon, the Blue and Gold held their opponents to just one goal while they went on to record six for the 17-9 win.
Box Score Insights:
- Zabbia led the charge with six goals followed by Landers with four.
- Baldino, Jackson Bulger, and Trevor Lamoureux tallied two points each on one goal and an assist. Colin Reese recorded three assists.
- Chris Butler led the charge on the defensive end with two caused turnovers and Hodge-Boccanfuso with seven ground balls after going 11-20 (55%) in face offs.
- Jack Kern recorded the win when he posted a season-high of 15 saves.
