DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Pace University Men's Soccer showed plenty of fight on Wednesday afternoon but ultimately fell just short in a 2-1 road loss to Mercy University at Mercy Field. The Setters, who continue to battle through a tightly contested conference slate, now hold a 4-7-2 overall record and stand at 0-4-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play.
Mercy broke through first in the 34th minute, capitalizing on a cross from the right side to take a 1-0 advantage. The Blue and Gold nearly answered before halftime, with shots from
Derrick Henry,
Peter Magnuson III, and
Niall Rodgers all testing the Mavericks' back line, but the Setters were kept off the board heading into the break.
The hosts doubled their lead early in the second half before Pace found its rhythm. In the 72nd minute, Maor converted a setup from
Tito Easter, slicing the deficit in half and shifting momentum in the Setters' favor. The goal marked Maor's second of the season and Easter's second assist.
Pace continued to push forward in search of an equalizer, as Henry's shot caromed off the crossbar and
Daniel Santos fired narrowly high in the closing minutes. Despite the late push, men's soccer ultimately fell short after 90 minutes of play, 2-1.
Goalkeeper
Rocky Jing made one save in the contest, while Rodgers, Magnuson, and Maor each recorded shots on target for Pace.
Pace will return home for Homecoming & Pace Goes Pink on Friday, October 17, when the Setters host Assumption University at Northwell Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
