Baseball Puts Seven Members on NE10 All-Conference Teams

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University baseball team, coming off a postseason victory over Southern Connecticut State University yesterday, had seven members named to the NE10 All-Conference Team, announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon.

Senior pitcher Patrick Gleason (Valhalla, N.Y./Valhalla) was named Southwest Division Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-Conference, while grad student outfielder Mitchell McCabe (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford/ Bridgton Academy) was named to the All-Conference Second Team. Sophomore shortstop Mason Baronian (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) was named Third-Team All-Conference while also making the All-Conference Defensive Team, and freshman pitchers Robert Gilchrist (New Milford, Conn./North Salem) and Brendan McCann (Plainview, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) were named to the All-Rookie Team. Sophomore outfielder Josh Miller (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) and sophomore catcher Hunter Goldstein (Jericho, N.Y./Jericho) were both named to the All-Conference Defensive Team as well, rounding out the awards for the Setters.

Gleason had the best season of his career, posting a 2.08 ERA in career-high 65 innings pitched. The senior finished second in the conference in ERA while finishing tied for fourth in the NE10 with seven wins. He had a career-best 59 strikeouts on the season while pitching three complete games and had an opponent batting average of .206 and 1.28 WHIP.

McCabe followed up on his huge 2022 season with an equally impressive 2023 campaign. The grad student had a .348 batting average while leading the team with 10 home runs and a career-high 39 RBI. He also had career-bests in hits (56) and runs (44) while racking up a .438 on-base percentage and .596 slugging percentage to go along with 17 stolen bases.

Baronian had a strong sophomore season for the Setters, improving in every major statistical category. The shortstop posted a .353 batting average, up 74 points from a year ago. Had had two home runs and set career-highs in RBI (24), runs (31), hits (60), and doubles (12). Baronian had a .430 on-base percentage and .459 slugging percentage while putting up a .959 fielding percentage.

Gilchrist has made 13 appearances in his freshman season, finishing the regular season with a 2.78 ERA and a 3-0 record. On the year, he's gone 34 innings and recorded 19 strikeouts, and allowed a .210 opponent batting average while collecting a 1.25 WHIP on the year.

McCann went 4-4 in his rookie season for the Setters, finishing second on the team in ERA (2.43). He went 33.1 innings on the year over 10 appearances, picking up 15 strikeouts while opponents batted .260 against him.

Miller had an outstanding sophomore season in the field, proving to be one of Pace's most reliable fielders. He made several highlight-reel catches on the year and had a .972 fielding percentage. He also held his own at the plate, batting .276 on the season while picking up eight extra-base hits and 15 RBI.

Goldstein was big on the defensive end as well for Pace, picking up a .994 fielding percentage while throwing out 23 runners attempting to steal on the year. On the offensive end, he had six extra-base hits and 26 RBI on the season.

After defeating SCSU, the Setters advance to championship weekend of the NE10 Conference Championships. Pace will take on Bentley University Thursday, May 11 in their next contest, with game time set for 2:30 p.m.
