No. 10 Men's Lacrosse Falls to No. 5 Adelphi in Road Matchup

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Going up against the No. 5 ranked team in the country, the No. 10 Pace University men's lacrosse team dropped an 18-7 decision to Adelphi University Wednesday, April 5 on the road in NE10 action.

The Panthers (10-0, 6-0 NE10) started strong, putting in two goals in the first five minutes. Shortly after, Jason Rebaudo, who scored four times on the night, scored two in a span of 1:22 to put the home team up 4-0. After another goal less than a minute later made it a five-goal lead, the Setters (7-2, 3-2 NE10) got on the board in the final moments of the first. Senior attack Marcus Ottaviano (Crystal Beach, Ontario, Canada/Nichols School) scored off an assist from grad student attack Jake Veres (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville), making it a 5-1 score after one.

Pace cut the deficit to three in the opening minutes of the second quarter, getting a goal by senior midfielder Anthony Caputo (Westbury, N.Y./W.T Clarke) at the 1:54 mark. However, Adelphi then took command, rolling off four straight goals over a span of 5:09 to take a 9-2 advantage. Two goals 1:18 apart by Veres and sophomore attack Daniel Zabbia (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) got the Setters back within five, but two more goals from the Panthers, including one with one second remaining, pushed the lead back up to seven at 11-4 heading into halftime.

Adelphi pulled away for good in the third, outscoring Pace 5-0 in the quarter. Logan Tucker scored two of his three goals, while Rebaudo added another as well. The Setters got seven shots away but were unable to find the back of the net, as Adelphi goalkeeper Dylan Renner made five saves in the quarter.

Veres scored a pair of early goals for Pace in the fourth, answering a Panthers goal. Freshman attack Declan Landers (Liverpool, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) added a late goal for the visitors, but Adelphi picked up the win in NE10 play, taking an 18-7 decision over the Setters.

On the night, Veres led the Pace with three goals and one assist. Junior midfielder Maxwell Streety (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) had 10 ground balls and went 14-of-26 from the faceoff circle.
