PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 10 ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team rebounded from Wednesday's loss with an impressive 18-9 victory over Franklin Pierce University in NE10 play Saturday, April 8 at Pace Stadium.
Sophomore attack Daniel Zabbia (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) was the story of the day, scoring six goals on the afternoon. He picked up three in the opening quarter to help Pace (8-2, 4-2 NE10) jump out to a 5-1 lead after 15 minutes. Junior midfielder Maxwell Streety (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) scored in the opening seconds of the game, and junior midfielder Alex Cenci (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) scored during the period as well as the Setters took command early.
Joe Nutting, who had three goals on the day, scored early in the second for Franklin Pierce (4-5, 1-4 NE10). The Setters came back with two goals in under a minute by grad student attack Ryan Brown (Northport, N.Y./Central Bucks) and senior attack Marcus Ottaviano (Crystal Beach, Ontario, Canada/Nichols School) to extend the lead to 7-2. After the Ravens picked up one more, junior midfielder Rafael Rodriguez, Jr. (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) got on the board to put Pace ahead by five at the half.
Following another early goal by Nutting, the Setters put the game out of reach in the third. Pace rattled off seven straight goals to end the quarter, with Zabbia providing three on his own. Brown and Ottaviano both added their second of the day, while senior midfielder Anthony Caputo (Westbury, N.Y./W.T Clarke) and freshman midfielder Trevor Lamoureux (Miller Place, N.Y./Rocky Point) each tallied their first of the afternoon to give the Setters a 15-4 lead after three.
The fourth quarter belonged to sophomore attack Joey Parisi (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee), who scored three times in the period. Although the Raven outscored them 4-3 in the period, the Setters rolled to an 18-9 win over Franklin Pierce.
On the day, Zabbia had six goals and one assist, while Caputo had one score and three helpers. Brown and Ottaviano each scored twice, while Parisi found the back of the net three times. Streety had one goal, 10 ground balls and went 16-of-22 from the faceoff circle. Sophomore midfielder James Mantione (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) had six ground balls, and grad student goalkeeper Louis Ragusa (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) made nine saves in three quarters, picking up the victory.
