Morrow's Last-Second Goal Lifts No. 10 Men's Lacrosse Over Southern New Hampshire

HOOKSETT, N.H. – The No. 10 ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team won a wild one Saturday afternoon, as sophomore midfielder Timmy Morrow's (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) last-second goal completed a fourth quarter comeback to give the Setters a 12-11 victory over Southern New Hampshire University on April 1.

After neither team was able to score through the first seven minutes, the Setters (7-1, 3-1 NE10) exploded offensively, finding the back of the net four times in a span of 4:41. Pace shut out the Penmen (1-4, 0-4 NE10) in the opening period, getting a pair of goals from junior midfielder Rafael Rodriguez, Jr. (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East), who scored three goals on the day. Sophomore attack Daniel Zabbia (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) and grad student attack Jake Veres (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) each added one in the quarter, putting the visitors ahead 4-0.

Southern New Hampshire came back in the second, outscoring the Setters 3-1. Ryan Auger scored a pair of goals for the Penmen in a 34 second span, while junior midfielder Maxwell Streety (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) scored in between Auger's two goals. A late score by SNHU's Tristan Pietz on a man-up opportunity made it a 5-3 game at the half.

SNHU came out strong on the offensive end in the third, putting up five goals to tie the game. The Penmen first scored in the opening minute, cutting Pace's lead to one. Back-to-back goals scored by senior midfielder Anthony Caputo (Westbury, N.Y./W.T Clarke) and Rodriguez just 65 seconds apart extended the Setters' lead back to three, and junior midfielder Alex Cenci (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) scored in the period as well. But Jack Terrones and Tim Krutz both scored a pair of goals for the home team, with Krutz's second goal coming with one second left to tie the game at eight heading to the fourth quarter.

Freshman midfielder Colin Reese (Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) scored for the second consecutive game to give Pace the lead early in the fourth, but Auger scored to tie the game just six seconds later to make it a 9-9 score. The Penmen then went on to take their first lead of the day, as Krutz and Auger both put one in for the home team to give SNHU a two-goal lead.

But the Setters came storming back, starting with Veres scoring his second of the day with 3:04 to go to bring Pace within a goal. With SNHU still holding their one-goal lead, Caputo scored with just over a minute remaining, tying the game at 11 as Pace erased its deficit. Then with the game looking as though it was poised to go to overtime, Morrow came down the field and fired one in with 20 seconds remaining, giving Pace a 12-11 come-from-behind victory in the final moments.

On the day, Rodriguez led the Setters with three goals, while Caputo and Veres each had two goals and one assist. Streety had a goal and 10 ground balls, while grad student Louis Ragusa (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) made 15 saves on the day.
