PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 11 ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team stayed perfect on the year, improving to 5-0 with a 16-5 victory over Georgian Court University Saturday afternoon at Pace Stadium.
The Setters (5-0) took command from the start, putting up seven goals in the opening period. Junior midfielder
Rafael Rodriguez, Jr. (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) got Pace started with a goal just 1:29 into the game, and senior midfielder
Anthony Caputo (Westbury, N.Y./W.T Clarke) followed up with one of his own a minute later.
Sophomore attack
Daniel Zabbia (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) kept up his huge start to the season, scoring four goals in the first 15 minutes to up his season total to 24. Freshman attack
Declan Landers (Liverpool, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) put one in for Pace as well, giving the home team a 7-0 lead after one.
A pair of goals for the Lions (3-5) got them on the board in the opening minutes of the second quarter, but they were unable to break through again before the half. Junior midfielder
Alex Cenci (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) scored with 5:43 remaining, putting the Setters ahead 8-2 heading into the intermission.
Pace kept up the offense in the third, outscoring Georgian Court 4-1 in the period. After an early goal by sophomore midfielder
Andrew Llamas (Valhalla, N.Y./Westlake), Caputo scored his second of the day. Grad student attack
Ryan Brown (Northport, N.Y./Central Bucks) then scored a pair of late goals in a span of 1:24, sending Pace to the fourth with a 12-3 lead.
Brown continued his strong play in the fourth, netting two more and scoring four total on the day. Junior midfielder
Maxwell Streety (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) scored his third of the year just 14 seconds into the final quarter, and freshman defenseman
Brian Brennan (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) scored the first goal of his collegiate career in the period as Pace rolled to a 16-5 home victory.
On the day, Brown led the Setters with four goals and one assist, with Zabbia adding four goals as well. Caputo scored a pair, and sophomore midfielder
Timmy Morrow (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) had three assists.
Streety had 13 ground balls and went 15-of-19 from the faceoff circle, and junior attack
Rowan Kelly (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) had two ground balls and two caused turnovers on the day. Grad student
Louis Ragusa (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) picked up the win in net, making nine saves.
After a week off, the Setters kick off NE10 play with a March 25 road matchup at American International College. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
