Box Score 2 La Mirada, CALIF. – Capping off their spring break trip to California, the Pace University softball team split a doubleheader at Biola University on Thursday night.
GAME TWO – Pace 7, Biola 4
Following a tight loss in the opener, the Setters rattled off a three-run victory in their Cali finale.
A four-run third inning sparked the Pace offense while sophomore
Gisselle Garcia (Lemon Grove, Calif./Mater Dei Catholic) registered a complete-game win in the circle. The right-hander struck out seven across the seven frames.
Freshman
Sophie Valle (Chino, Calif./Walnut) piloted the Setters' lineup with a 3-for-4 effort. The California native also knocked in a pair of runs while finishing with two doubles and a triple.
Another freshman
Katerina Luna (Mckinney, Texas/Rock Hill) led the Blue and Gold with three RBIs in the game. She knocked in runs with singles in both the third and fifth innings.
Senior
Gwen Pederson (Sylmar, Calif./Granada Hills Charter) also tallied multiple hits, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
GAME ONE – Biola 2, Pace 1 (8 Innings)
The first contest of the day needed extra frames before the Eagles were able to come away with a walk-off win.
Junior
Anna Acevedo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) served as the hard-luck loser for Pace. The right-hander allowed just one earned run and five hits across 7.2 innings of action.
Offensively, the Setters' lone hit of the game provided their lone run in the fifth inning. Freshman
Kaylee Matsuda's (Kaneohe, Hawaii/Iolani School) RBI single with two outs tied the game at 1-1.
UP NEXT
The Setters will make their home debut next Wednesday (March 22) with a doubleheader against Dominican.
