PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The 10th-ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 4 Adelphi on Wednesday by a score of 11-8. The defeat shifts the Setters' overall record to 7-2 this season, including 3-2 in the NE10.
It was a tough first quarter that ultimately doomed the Blue and Gold on Wednesday. In fact, after falling behind 5-1 across the opening 15 minutes, Pace outscored Adelphi 7-6 over the final three quarters.
Penalties were also a key part of the contest as Adelphi cashed in on three of its four man-up opportunities while Pace finished 0-for-3 on such chances.
Senior Jake Veres (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) led the Setters' attack with three goals, while Tim Cairo (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) finished with a team-best five points off three assists and a pair of tallies.
Kyle Casey (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) joined in with a goal and two assists, while Rafael Rodriguez, Jr. (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) and Marcus Ottaviano (Ontario, Canada/Nichols School) also found the back of the net.
Graduate student Griffin Shiland (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Lakeland) performed well for Pace in the midfield, nabbing a team-best and season-best seven ground balls.
Pace goalkeeper Louis Ragusa (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) kept the Setters within striking distance with 14 saves in a losing effort, while on the other side, Adelphi's Dylan Renner piled up 15 stops in net.
