PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Coming off their first loss of the season at No. 2 Le Moyne, the ninth-ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team responded with a 19-10 win over Southern New Hampshire on Saturday. The victory pushes the Setters' record to 7-1 this season, including 3-1 in the NE10.
With the score even at 5-5 early in the second quarter, the Blue and Gold surged past the Penmen.
A 3-1 spurt to end the half, followed by a 5-1 run out of the locker room, put Pace ahead 14-8 mid-way through the third quarter.
The Setters would ultimately close the door with a 4-0 stretch to end the game.
Kyle Casey (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) and
Jake Veres (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) propelled the Pace offense with a pair of seven-point outputs. Casey racked up five goals and two assists, while Veres finished with four tallies and three helpers.
Casey continues to lead the NE10 in points this season with 43 while Veres ranks third in the league with 35.
Junior
Marcus Ottaviano (Ontario, Canada/Nichols School) joined in with a career-high five points on Saturday thanks to three goals and two assists.
Sophomore
Rafael Rodriguez, Jr. (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) served as Pace's final multi-goal scorer with a pair of tallies.
Defensively,
Timothy January's (Peabody, Mass./Peabody Veterans Memorial) four caused turnovers led the way for a Pace team that racked up 16 of them.
Speaking of defense, senior goalkeeper
Louis Ragusa (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) posted a new season high of 15 stops. He has now totaled at least 12 saves in four of Pace's eight games this season.
Ragusa currently ranks second in the NE10 in save percentage (.615) and third in goals-against average (7.25).
