PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Fueled by another dominant defensive performance, the 15
th-ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team registered a 20-1 win over AIC on Saturday afternoon. The decisive victory clinches the
No. 5 seed for the Setters in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.
A goal just 37 seconds into the game set the tone for another double-digit win for Pace. The Blue and Gold's five victories this season have come by an average of 10.4 goals.
The Setters allowing just one AIC tally matches their lowest total given up since 2012 when they also yielded just one goal. Pace ranks third in the NE10 in goals-against average (8.66) in conference games this season.
The Blue and Gold put together a remarkable 30 caused turnovers in the game. 20 different players registered at least one forced turnover, including a team-high four by senior
Jason Rider (Allentown, N.J./Allentown).
Offensively, it was graduate student
Alan Singleton (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Pierrefonds Comprehensive) leading the way with a game-high five goals. He also chipped in an assist for a career-best six points.
Six points was also put forth by junior
Jake Veres (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville), who finished the contest with three goals and three assists. Veres and Singleton currently rank 1-2 on Pace in total points this spring.
Nine other Setters found the back of the net on Saturday, led by two each from
Tim Cairo (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River),
Anthony Caputo (Westbury, N.Y./W.T Clarke) and
Paul Cenci (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip).
Senior
Jalen Paul (Canton, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy) also picked up multiple points, earning a goal and a pair of assists.
