Men's Lacrosse Wins Thriller at Bentley to Advance to NE10 Tournament Semifinals

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sparked by another clutch fourth quarter, the 16th-ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team pulled out an 11-9 win at Bentley in the NE10 Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday night. The Setters will now advance to take on top-seeded Saint Anselm in the conference semifinals on Wednesday.

Trailing by two goals heading into the final 15 minutes, the Setters scored the first four goals of the fourth quarter while finishing the game on a 5-1 run.

With Pace up 10-9 with less than a minute remaining in the game, junior goalkeeper Louis Ragusa (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) came up with a pair of clutch saves on Bentley shots right in front of goal.

Following the Ragusa stops, junior Jake Veres (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) found the back of the net with 34 seconds left to put an exclamation point on the thrilling win.

Veres and Alan Singleton (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Pierrefonds Comprehensive) served as Pace's top scorers in the contest as they each tallied a hat trick of goals. The duo also combined for three assists.

Sophomore Anthony Caputo (Westbury, N.Y./W.T Clarke) was Setters' other multiple-goal scorer, while Joseph Diggle (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip), Marcus Ottaviano (Ontario, Canada/Nichols School), and Rafael Rodriguez, Jr. (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) also found the back of the net.

Ragusa's great efforts to help clinch the win were the culmination of a career-best 18 saves. He has now tallied at least 10 stops in nine contests this season, while ranking fourth in the NE10 in total stops.

In other notable statistics, senior Patrick Mulcahy (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) led the Setters with four ground balls, while Daniel Lewis (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) recorded a team-high three caused turnovers.
