ALBANY, N.Y. – Highlighted by one of their best defensive performances in recent years, the 13th-ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team registered a 15-3 win at Saint Rose on Wednesday.
The Setters' three goals against marks their lowest total given up since 2012. Pace's defense didn't yield a tally across the final 19:35 of regulation on Wednesday.
Junior goalkeeper Louis Ragusa (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) registered 12 saves in net to earn his third win of the season. He has now registered double-digit stops in six games, while ranking third in the NE10 in total saves this spring (82).
Offensively, it was a trio of hat tricks that sparked the Blue and Gold. Jake Veres (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville), Anthony Caputo (Westbury, N.Y./W.T Clarke) and Alan Singleton (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Pierrefonds Comprehensive) put forth nine of Pace's 15 goals. Veres and Caputo also chipped in assists.
Blake Balcaen (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) served as the Setters' top point-scorer with a game-high six. He registered a pair of goals, while dishing out a career-high four assists.
Bryce Clark (Rumson, N.J./Rums Fair-Haven Regional) was stout in face-off opportunities for Pace, dropping just two of 10 matchups. He nabbed a pair of ground balls as the Setters put together a 39-30 advantage in that category.
Aidan Egazarian (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee), Tim Cairo (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River), Rawil Herrera (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus), and Jalen Paul (Canton, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy) each found the back of the net once to round out the Pace scoring.
