No. 10 Men's Lacrosse Falls in Defensive Battle to No. 1 Le Moyne, 6-4

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – In a defensive battle that featured two of the top teams in the country, the 10th-ranked Pace University men's lacrosse squad was defeated by No. 1 Le Moyne on Saturday by a score of 6-4.

The Setters climbed back from a 2-0 first-quarter deficit to even the score up before halftime. A goal by sophomore Anthony Caputo (Westbury, N.Y./W.T Clarke) cut the Le Moyne lead in half, while a tally from freshman Rafael Rodriguez, Jr. (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) tied the game up with 2:47 remaining in the second quarter.

Pace would go on to take its first lead of the contest mid-way through the third quarter as junior Jake Veres (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) found the back of net at the 8:42 mark.

After more than seven minutes of scoreless action following Veres' goal, it was a Le Moyne 4-0 spurt that proved to be the difference.

The Dolphins took the lead back with two goals to close out the third before adding back-to-back tallies early in the fourth.

The Blue and Gold's final goal was provided by graduate student Daniel Lewis (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) with 16 seconds left. It was Lewis' second goal of the season and fourth of his career.

Lewis was stellar defensively for Pace on Saturday, finishing the game with a career-high eight caused turnovers. He added three ground balls as well.

Also on the defensive end of the field, junior goalkeeper Louis Ragusa (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) registered 10 saves in net. He has now racked up double-digit stops in five games this season.
