PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Making the most of their home debut, the 10
th-ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team posted a 21-7 win over Saint Rose to begin NE10 play on Saturday.
A Setters' goal within the first 40 seconds of the game set the tone in both team's conference opener. Pace had 10 different players notch tallies in the contest, while a total of 13 Setters picked up at least one point in the victory.
Pace's onslaught featured seven goals in the opening quarter, and an 11-1 run to close out the game. Leading by five at halftime, the Setters scored the first six goals of the third quarter.
Senior
Joseph Diggle (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) led the Blue and Gold in points with seven (3G, 4A), while graduate student
Alan Singleton (Pierrefonds, Quebec/Pierrefonds Comprehensive) knocked in a team-high four goals.
Jake Veres (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville),
Adam Story (Middleton, Mass./Masconomet Regional) and
Tim Cairo (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) also each posted multiple tallies against the Golden Knights.
Shane Coleman (Manorville, N.Y./Riverhead),
Aidan Egazarian (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee) and
Rafael Rodriguez, Jr. (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) chipped in as well—each recording their first-career goals at Pace.
The Blue and Gold's offense was sparked by
Bryce Clark (Rumson, N.J./Rums Fair-Haven Regional) going 19-for-26 in face-offs, while grabbing 10 ground balls.
The Setters' 43 total ground balls in the game matches their team-high across their last 20 contests. Also on the defensive side, Pace had 11 different players tally at least one caused turnover.
