Highlighting some of the major team and individual records that have been broken throughout the history of Pace Athletics!
The 1993-94 Setter team was a star-studded cast, featuring three Pace Athletics Hall of Famers on the roster and another as an assistant coach. Led by head coach
Carrie Seymour, the Blue and Gold racked up the second-most wins in program history, finishing the season with a 27-4 record. A historic year that featured a New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) Regular Season championship and five players receiving postseason conference accolades culminated with a run to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
The 1993-94 Setters were amongst the top teams in the entire nation, leading all of Division II in scoring defense (53.8 points allowed per game), opponent field-goal percentage (30.8 percent), and margin of victory (22.5 points). Additionally, the Setters ranked fourth in the country with a 48.7 field goal percentage of their own and 11th with a 9.5 rebound margin.
Pace went 17-1 against the NYCAC, with one of the biggest wins in program history coming on Jan. 22. The Setters snapped Philadelphia Textile's 24-game home winning streak, defeating the Rams 66-58 in overtime. One week later, Pace earned a top-10 national ranking following a 62-60 win over Clarion. All in all, the Setters finished the regular season on a 16-game winning streak. They were voted No. 4 in the final NCAA Division II poll of the regular season.
The Setters would clinch first place in the NYCAC on Feb. 27, defeating conference foe, Saint Rose, 65-57. Pace would then roll into the NYCAC Tournament Finals on the heels of an 87-47 victory over Adelphi, where they would ultimately fall to Philadelphia Textile. Pace continued to make postseason noise in the NCAA Tournament, defeating East Stroudsburg in the East Region Semifinals. The Setters' monumental season would come to a close on Mar. 13, as Pace was edged by Clarion 71-67.
Seymour was named NYCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Setters in their dominant campaign. Pace added three new members to the 1,000-point club in Rebecca Hanson, Jody Hill, and Beth Finn. Both Hill and Hanson were named to the NYCAC First Team following stellar senior seasons. Ginny Ziogas earned Second Team honors, while Finn and Elisabeth Brandefine each received All-Conference Honorable Mentions.
Hanson (Class of 2004), Hill (2018) and Ziogas (2016) have all been inducted into the Pace Athletics Hall of Fame. Jennifer DiMaggio, who served as an assistant coach in 1993-94, was a member of Pace's first Hall of Fame class and is still the Setters' all-time leading scorer.
