Women’s Basketball Suffers NE10 Quarterfinals Loss to Southern Connecticut

NEW HAVEN, CT – Northeast-10 (NE10) fifth seed, Pace Women's Basketball, went into their Sunday afternoon with a Quarterfinal match up against the fourth seed, Southern Connecticut State in New Haven, CT.

In the event, three Setters led the charge with double-digit points, but the squad was ultimately were upended in the second half of play and dropped 68-61.

Here's What Happened:
  • The first quarter of the day featured the Setters outscoring their opponents 17-14 on points by Shanice Sinclair, Katumina Mansaray, and Arianna Stockinger.
  • After Mansaray's fastbreak bucket, 18-16, to ignite the second quarter, the score would flip back-and-forth with the Owls grasping the 19-18 lead and Tower Lorde giving the lead back to the Blue and Gold, 20-19. Mansaray ended the first half with a jumper for the two-point advantage, 31-29, as the Setters continued to edge the Owls.
  • With the third quarter underway, the Owls equalized the score at 33 and grasped the 36-33 advantage from the charity stripe. From there, the Setters attempted to fight their way back into the contest but found themselves down by 10, 48-38, with just one minute remaining in before the final stanza.
  • Pace recorded 19 points in the fourth in an attempt to advance to the next round of the NE10 postseason, but with the Owls tallying 20 of their own, the Setters NE10 run has come to an end, 68-61.
Box Score Insights:
  • Mansaray led all scorers with 18 points followed by Lorde with 17 points and seven rebounds.
  • Sinclair was the final Setter scorer with double-digit points when she recorded 14 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
  • The Blue and Gold shot an impressive 58% (7-12) from the field in their leading first quarter, but the hot hand eventually froze to 13% (2-16) by the third when the Owls grasped their 10-point lead.
