Pace Athletics Weekend Preview: Senior Days and Season-Openers

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – It is officially crossover season for the Pace University Department of Athletics as both winter and spring teams are in action this weekend. Both basketball teams and men's lacrosse will be at home on Saturday, while baseball is on the road in South Carolina.

The Setters nearly knocked off No. 10 Adelphi on Wednesday night but ultimately fell short in overtime. Lauren Schetter (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon High School) led the team in scoring with 19 points while the NE10's fourth-leading scorer Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, N.Y./Commack) added 14 of her own.

Prior to Wednesday's game, Pace was ranked ninth in the NCAA Regional Rankings. Now at 18-8 overall and an 11-6 mark in conference play, the Blue and Gold sit in fourth place in the NE10 Southwest Divisional standings.

*Ahead of Saturday's tipoff, Pace will honor its three graduating members Italee Brown-Smikle (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale), Jenna Scanlon (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) and Jackie DelliSanti (Commack, N.Y./Commack) during its Senior Day festivities in the Goldstein Fitness Center.

The men are coming off a big overtime win at Adelphi on Wednesday night. Pace's high-scoring offense was once again led by NE10 scoring leader, Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, N.J./Southern Regional), who dropped 31 points and 14 rebounds for his 11th double-double this season. Additionally, Tyrone Cohen, Jr. (Woodside, N.Y./Christ the King / Holy Cross University / Broward College) came up clutch in overtime and scored a season-high 21-points and drained five 3-pointers in the win.

With two games remaining on the Setters' regular-season schedule, they are tied for third place in the NE10 Southwest Divisional standings as both Pace and Southern Connecticut State University sit at 9-8 in conference play. 

*Saturday will also serve as Senior Day in the last home game for the Blue and Gold. Pace's four senior members – Peyton Wejnert (Point Pleasant, N.J./Southern Regional), Jack McGuire (Brielle, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy), Ray Montilus (Union, N.J./Pope John XXII) and Tyrone Cohen, Jr. (Woodside, N.Y./Christ the King / Holy Cross University / Broward College) – will be honored prior to tipoff in the Goldstein Fitness Center.

Pace Baseball vs. Post University | Saturday, 3:00 p.m. | Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Pace Baseball vs. Concordia College | Sunday, 12:00 p.m. | Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Pace will finish their four-game stand in Myrtle Beach this weekend by taking on Post University on Saturday followed by a matchup with Concordia College on Sunday. For more, see the 2020 Season Preview.

The Setters will open their season at home this Saturday against Dominican College. They have won their last four season openers, including a 23-11 win over Dominican last year at Pace Stadium. See the 2020 Season Preview for more.
