Pace Men's Lacrosse's Tom Mariano Promoted to Head Coach of MLL's Chesapeake Bayhawks

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – A few months after helping the organization win the Major League Lacrosse Championship, Pace University's Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Tom Mariano has been tabbed the newest head coach of the Chesapeake Bayhawks.

Mariano has strong ties to the MLL, having worked in some capacity within the league since 2013. In fact, Mariano was named the MLL Coach of the Year in 2017 after leading the Florida Launch to their first-ever playoff berth. Most recently, he spent 2019 as the Bayhawks' assistant coach and offensive coordinator.

Mariano's Pace resume has been equally impressive as he begins his seventh season in Pleasantville this spring. Under his leadership, the Blue and Gold have put together a 57-35 record (.620) over the past six seasons. He was named the NE10's Co-Coach of the Year in 2017 following a season in which the Setters earned their first-ever berth into the NCAA Tournament. This past year, the Blue and Gold tallied the program's most wins in a season since 1999 (13).

Coach Mariano's teams have also impressed in the classroom during his time in Pleasantville. Most notably, Pace's 2018 squad earned the NE10's Team Excellence Award, signifying the highest cumulative GPA in the conference (3.17).

From Chesapeake Bayhawks' press release:

"I am extremely grateful and honored to be following in the footsteps of Dave Cottle," said Bayhawks' head coach, Tom Mariano. "The Bayhawks have an unwavering tradition of success, and I look forward to working with our guys to keep that tradition going in 2020. We are committed to being the best version of ourselves."
