PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University announced today that Head Men's Lacrosse Coach and Assistant Athletics Director
Tom Mariano has stepped down from his role to accept the Athletic Director and Boys Lacrosse Coach position at Perkiomen School, a college preparatory school in Pennsburg, Pennsylvania.
Mariano leaves Pace after 13 seasons at the helm of the men's lacrosse program, during which he transformed the Setters into one of the premier programs in NCAA Division II. Mariano compiled a 123-66 overall record and this past spring he surpassed longtime head coach
Dan Mulholland's program record for career victories to become the winningest coach in Pace men's lacrosse history. During his tenure, Mariano guided the Blue and Gold to multiple Northeast 10 (NE10) postseasons, the program's first conference championship appearance since 2003, and four NCAA Tournament berths.
The success under Mariano included some of the most significant achievements in program history. He led Pace to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2017, a program-record No. 3 national ranking in 2018, and the program's first NCAA Tournament victory in 2024. That victory also marked the 200th collegiate coaching win of Mariano's career. He was named the 2017 NE10 Conference Co-Coach of the Year after guiding the Setters to one of the most successful seasons in program history and received the 2024 Howdy Myers Man of the Year Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sport of lacrosse.
In addition to the program's competitive success, Mariano emphasized excellence in the classroom and the holistic development of his student-athletes. Under his leadership, the Setters earned the Northeast 10 Team Excellence Award for posting the conference's highest cumulative team GPA in 2018, while numerous student-athletes received all-conference, regional, All-America and academic honors. Mariano also served as president of the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) following years of service on its Board of Directors.
"We are incredibly grateful for Tom's leadership and the lasting impact he has made on our student-athletes and men's lacrosse program," said Director of Athletics Mark Brown. "He elevated our program to new heights while fostering a culture centered on excellence, accountability and personal growth. His impact extends far beyond wins and losses, and the foundation he built will continue to benefit Pace Men's Lacrosse for years to come. We thank Tom for his years of dedicated service and wish him and his family nothing but continued success at Perkiomen School."
A national search for Pace University's next head men's lacrosse coach will begin immediately.
