PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Playing at home for the final time this regular season, the No. 11 Pace University men's lacrosse team defeated No. 17 Bentley on Saturday afternoon, 21-16. The victory clinches a fifth straight NE10 Tournament berth for the Setters, and improves their record to 11-3 overall (7-3, NE10).
On a day where the Setters honored the Class of 2019 with a pregame Senior Day ceremony, it was fittingly Pace's upperclassmen that combined for 26 points in the contest.
Daniel Keenan (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) once again finished the game as Pace's leading scorer, finding the back of the net five times and collecting three assists as part of an eight-point day.
Bradley Paterson (Caldwell, NJ/Depaul Catholic) had a seven-point effort with a pair of goals and a season-high five assists.
Connor Vercruysse (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) scored five goals, while
Wyatt Barfoot (Georgian Bluffs, Ontario/St. Mary's) added a trio of tallies and a helper.
Daniel O'Brien (Binghamton, NY/Seton Catholic Central) and
Steven Weindler (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham Wading River) also each had a point to wrap up their Senior Day celebrations.
Not letting the seniors have all the fun,
Adam Story (Middleton, MA/Masconomet Regional) and
Bruno Surace (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) combined for five goals.
Joseph Diggle (West Islip, NY/West Islip) chipped in to the offense with three assists.
In a back-and-forth first period, the Setters ended the quarter on a 4-2 run to stake claim to a 6-5 lead through the opening 15 minutes. The even play continued throughout most of the first half, with the Setters and Falcons playing to an 8-8 tie with five minutes remaining.
The Blue and Gold would close out the half with a pair of scores from Barfoot and Keenan's second tally of the day to take an 11-8 lead into the half.
Pace scored the first two goals of the second half to extend their lead to five, putting the Setters in control to close out the contest. The Falcons would pull to within three in the fourth, but the Setters outscored Bentley 4-2 over the final 11 minutes to secure the win in their regular-season home finale.
