OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Earning their top team finishes of the season, the Pace University cross country teams had great showings at Saturday's NYIT Cross Country Invitational. The men's team as a collective placed third (second Non-DI), while the women earned a team finish of fifth.
Men's Results
Sean Engelfried (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) was the top finisher for the Setters for a third consecutive meet, breaking his own program record in the process. The freshman finished in fourth place with a time of 26:47.03. Classmate
Alec Valle (Newburgh, NY/Blair Academy) followed Engelfried across the finish line shortly after, clocking in at 27:01.82 for a placement of seventh.
Izzeldeen Farraj (Staten Island, NY/CSIHS/McCown) (27:43.45) and
Killian McCole (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) (27:49.58) rounded out the Pace runners in the top-20, placing 15
th and 17
th respectively.
The final four for the Setters all finished within nine spots of each other, all in the span of 61 seconds.
Mitchell Lawrence (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) (28:22.04) and
Ryan Oakes (Scarsdale, NY/Eastchester) (28:31.30) finished in 21
st and 22
nd.
Benjamin Dengler (South Kortright, NY/South Kortright Central) was right behind, placing 24
th with a time of 29:04.49.
Ricky Harris (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) rounded out a great race for the Blue and Gold with his time of 29:23.39, placing 29
th
.
Women's Results
Leading the women's squad were
Heaven Swan (Wingdale, NY/Dover) and
Rachael Daniels (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), who placed 16
th and 17
th. Swan posted a new season-best with a time of 20:48.87, while Daniels was just seconds behind her, finishing in 20:54.79.
Jessica Uben (Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) was next, earning 24
th place after clocking in at 21:43.32.
Camryn Podgorski (Brewster, NY/Brewster) (22:44.91),
Crystal Raines (Roosevelt, NJ/Hightstown) (22:55.16), and
Julia Presta (North Massapequa, NY/Farmingdale) (23:35.79) all finished within the next six spots, earning 26
th, 27
th, and 30
th, respectively.
Ashley De La Cruz (Yonkers, NY/Maria Regina) was the next runner to finish for the Blue and Gold, finishing 34
th with a time of 25:18.64.
Christina Jeroloman (Monroe, NY/Washingtonville) (26:05.28) and
Shea Cody (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Regional) (26:18.39) were separated by a single runner, finishing in 38
th and 40
th.
Ayanna Armstrong (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon) and
Mariam Coulibaly (Bronx, NY/Pelham Lab) rounded out the Setters' effort for the day. The sophomore Armstrong finished in 27:33.47 to place 43
rd, while the freshman Coulibaly finished in 30:00.60, good for 45
th.
