ALBANY, N.Y. – Undeterred by an early 3-0 deficit, the fifth-ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team registered a 13-7 victory at the College of Saint Rose on Saturday evening. The win improves the Setters to 5-2 overall this season, and 4-1 in NE10 action.
Inside the Numbers
*The Setters had eight different scorers notch their 13 goals, led by a trio of tallies each from
Ryan O'Hagan (Watervliet, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) and
Bradley Paterson (Caldwell, NJ/Depaul Catholic). O'Hagan's goals marked a career-best while Paterson also added a pair of assists.
*Paterson's five points were matched by freshman
Joseph Diggle (West Islip, NY/West Islip) for a team-best. Diggle chipped in two goals and three helpers.
*
Peter Bashar (Stratford, CT/St. Joseph),
Matthew Simone (Seaford, NY/Seaford),
Joshua Kreitler (Shelton, CT/Shelton),
Bruno Surace (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh), and
Wyatt Barfoot (Georgian Bluffs, Ontario/St. Mary's) also found the back of the net for the Blue and Gold.
*Senior keeper
Robert Beshlian (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) posted 13 saves in net to pick up his fifth triumph of the season. Beshlian has recorded double-digit stops in six of seven games this season.
*Pace outshot the Golden Knights, 44-31, including a 28-20 differential in shots on goal. The Setters also snagged 45 groundballs, their second-highest total of the season.
How it Happened
After Saint Rose put in the game's first three goals, the Setters kicked things into gear. A goal from O'Hagan sparked a 7-1 run for the Blue and Gold, and supplied the visitors with a 7-4 lead with less than two minutes left in the half. Pace took that edge into the locker room.
The Setters' momentum extended into the second half. Following a Golden Knights' goal to cut the lead to just two, four-straight tallies from Pace supplied more than enough distance to complete the win. Two goals from Paterson highlighted the run—the second one lifting the Setters to an 11-5 advantage with 3:41 left in the third quarter.
Kreitler and Surace added tallies in the fourth quarter as the Blue and Gold began their three-game road stretch with a six-goal victory.
Up Next
Pace will be off until next Saturday when they travel to take on Le Moyne at 2 p.m.
