No. 5 Pace Men's Lacrosse Defeated by Sixth-Ranked Adelphi, 12-6

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Heading into the night as the top-two teams in the NE10 standings, the fifth-ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team was edged by No. 6 Adelphi on Wednesday night by a score of 12-6. The loss puts the Setters at 4-2 overall this season, and 3-1 inside the NE10.

Inside the Numbers
*Pace had five different scorers record their six goals, which marked a season-low for the Setters. Junior Bradley Paterson (Caldwell, NJ/Depaul Catholic) led the way with two tallies while seniors Wyatt Barfoot (Georgian Bluffs, Ontario/St. Mary's) and Liam Brennan (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) each had two points on a goal and an assist.

*Ryan O'Hagan (Watervliet, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) and Peter Bashar (Stratford, CT/St. Joseph) were the Blue and Gold's final two scorers while Vincent Vasheo (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) chipped in an assist.

*As a team, Pace put together a 24-16 margin in ground balls. Junior Steven Weindler (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham Wading River) nabbed a team-high four while a trio of others—Paterson, Dom Albi (Bellmore, NY/Bellmore JFK) and Daniel Lewis (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot)—notched three apiece.

*The Setters had their chances on the offensive side of the ball, throwing a solid 17 shots on goal. Adelphi's goalkeeper, Brendan McDougal, however, rose to the occasion with 11 saves.

*On the other side, Pace's Robert Beshlian (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) registered 12 stops in just his second loss of the season.

How it Happened
Adelphi hopped out to a 2-0 lead—and after one answer by Pace—extended it to 4-1 with 25 seconds left in the first quarter. Brennan would score just as time expired in the first frame to cut the lead in half at 4-2.

The Panthers once again outscored Pace in the second quarter—this time 3-2—to take a 7-4 advantage into halftime. Barfoot posted the final goal of the first half with just 20 ticks on the clock.

The Setters would cut the lead to three on a pair of occasions in the second half, but would never sneak any closer. A goal by Bashar at the 4:39 mark of the third quarter made the score 8-5 while O'Hagan found the back of the net early in the fourth quarter to slim the edge to 9-6.

The Panthers responded to O'Hagan's goal with a 3-0 stretch to end the game. Ian Kirby scored a man-up goal at the 10:44 mark while Quintin McKenna and Michael Osmundsen also added tallies.

Up Next
The Setters begin a three-game road stretch this weekend with a trip to take on the College of Saint Rose on Saturday at 4 p.m.
