No. 7 Men's Lacrosse Shuts Down Saint Michael's, 12-4

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Led by a throttling defensive effort, the seventh-ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team posted a 12-4 win at Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon. The victory moves the Setters' record to 4-1 on the season, which includes a 3-0 mark against NE10 foes.

Inside the Numbers
*The four goals that Pace allowed is the lowest total since 2010. Senior keeper Robert Beshlian (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) finished the day with 16 saves—one off of his season-high. He put together a span of nearly 27 minutes from the first quarter to the third without allowing a single tally.

*In addition to the defensive brilliance, the Setters made the most of their opportunities on the other end. Pace recorded a season-best .375 shot percentage, scoring the 12 goals on just 32 total shots.

*Offensively, the Setters showed off their great versatility. The Blue and Gold had eight different goal-scorers in the contest, and 11 different players record at least one point.

*Bruno Surace (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh), Kevin Vogelsberg (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity Diocesan), Joseph Diggle (West Islip, NY/West Islip), and Peter Bashar (Stratford, CT/St. Joseph) each led Pace with two goals apiece. Liam Brennan (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) served as the top point-grabber, notching one tally and three assists.

*Ryan O'Hagan (Watervliet, NY/Christian Brothers Academy), Wyatt Barfoot (Georgian Bluffs, Ontario/St. Mary's) and Vincent Vasheo (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) also notched goals for the Blue and Gold. Steven Weindler (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham Wading River) and Dom Albi (Bellmore, NY/Bellmore JFK) led the way in groundballs, each nabbing four of them.

How it Happened
For the second-straight game, Pace was dominant from start to finish. The Setters hopped out to a 4-1 lead over the first 11 minutes of the game, capped off by tallies from Barfoot and Diggle.

The Setters would go on to extend that advantage to six goals at halftime thanks to a 4-0 spurt in the second quarter. Bashar had a pair of goals in the frame as Pace notched its second scoreless quarter of the season.

Pace continued its red-hot stretch into the third quarter, scoring the first two goals of the half to take a 10-2 lead. The Blue and Gold's largest lead, however, would come later in the fourth quarter as a Diggle goal made the margin 12-3 with 7:30 remaining.

Up Next
The Setters will look for a third-straight win on Wednesday night at Pace Stadium. The Blue and Gold are scheduled to host Adelphi at 7 p.m.
