PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The third-ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team stayed unbeaten at home this season courtesy of a 17-9 victory over Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday afternoon. The win also improved the Setters to 3-1 overall and 2-0 inside the NE10.
Inside the Numbers
*The duo of
Bradley Paterson (Caldwell, NJ/Depaul Catholic) and
Liam Brennan (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) totaled 10 of Pace's goals on the day, while also each adding an assist. The twosome currently ranks 1-2 on Pace in points, goals and assists this season.
*Freshman
Bruno Surace (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) enjoyed his best game of the young season, tallying the first three goals of his Pace career.
*
Daniel O'Brien (Binghamton, NY/Seton Catholic Central),
Peter Bashar (Stratford, CT/St. Joseph),
Vincent Vasheo (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh), and
Joseph Diggle (West Islip, NY/West Islip) represented the Blue and Gold's other scorers.
Kevin Vogelsberg (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity Diocesan) finished the game with a team-high three assists.
*The Blue and Gold out-shot Southern New Hampshire, 48-28, including a season-high 34 shots on net.Â
*Defensively,
Dom Albi (Bellmore, NY/Bellmore JFK) tallied a game-high four caused turnovers while
Robert Beshlian (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) registered 12 saves in net. Beshlian is now 3-1 on the season, sporting a .616 save percentage.
How it Happened
After going into halftime with just a one-goal lead at 7-6, the Setters dominated after the break. Pace rattled off a 9-1 run to begin the second half, seizing complete control of the contest.
Pace jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter, using goals from Brennan, Surace and Paterson to earn the early momentum. From there, it was back and forth until halftime. A pair of goals from SNHU cut the lead to one before Brennan and Paterson tallied consecutive goals to put Pace back up 6-3. The Penmen ended the half with a 3-1 stretch to go into the break down a single tally.
The Setters roared out of the locker room, scoring the first two goals, and then answering a SNHU goal with a 7-0 run that stretched into the early moments of the fourth quarter. Brennan knocked in three tallies during the run, while Diggle capped off the onslaught to give the Blue and Gold a 16-7 lead with 10:05 remaining in regulation.
Following two final goals from the Penmen, Paterson found the back of the net one final time at the 5:13 mark of the fourth quarter. Diggle earned the assist on the play.

The Setters will return to action next Saturday, traveling to take on Saint Michael's College for a 1 p.m. start.
