OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – In a game that was tied after each of the first three quarters, the third-ranked Pace University men's lacrosse team was defeated on Wednesday afternoon at No. 18 NYIT, 11-9. The loss by the Setters was the first of the season as they move their record to 2-1.
Inside the Numbers
*Four Setters led the way offensively with two goals apiece, while junior
Bradley Paterson (Caldwell, NJ/Depaul Catholic) also dished out three assists for a team-best five points. Paterson, in his last two games, has seven tallies and five assists.

Liam Brennan (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman),
Peter Bashar (Stratford, CT/St. Joseph) and
Spencer DeRosa (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) joined Paterson with a pair of goals on the afternoon. Brennan also tallied a pair of assists.

Kevin Vogelsberg (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity Diocesan) was Pace's final scorer while
Daniel Keenan (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) tallied one assist. Senior
Michael Pappalardo (Ossining, NY/Ossining) led the Setters with four ground balls.

Robert Beshlian (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) was solid in net for the Blue and Gold, making 13 saves in a complete-game effort.
*Andrew Zito paced NYIT with a game-high four goals while LeRoy Halftown registered five points.
*In an extremely even game statistically, Pace totaled one more shot (36) than NYIT. The Bears, however, earned a 24-19 margin in shots on goal.
*NYIT put together an 18-5 advantage in face-offs.
How it Happened
With stalemates at the end of each of the first three quarters, it was a 4-2 fourth for NYIT that proved to be the difference in the game.
Paterson scored the game's first goal while the Bears answered with two-straight tallies take a 2-1 lead at the 4:53 mark of the first quarter. Vogelsberg scored his goal with 43 seconds on the clock to tie the game after one.
The Bears earned the lead once again just 36 seconds in the second quarter off a goal from Michael Trainor. The Setters would respond in the following minute with tallies from Paterson and Brennan to give Pace their first lead of the day. After NYIT responded with two goals of their own to pull ahead 5-4 with four minutes remaining, Brennan struck again with 1:55 left in the half to send the teams to the locker rooms even at 5-5.
While the scoring slowed down in the second half, Pace was able to collect the two opening goals of the third quarter from Bashar and DeRosa. The Bears' attack came to life in the final three minutes, scoring twice to end the period and tie the game at 7-7 heading into the fourth.
DeRosa put Pace back on top with the first tally of the final period at the 7:59 mark, but NYIT scored twice in the following two minutes to go back on top. While Bashar would pull the Setters back even with under two minutes to play, Halftown would score twice in the closing 90 seconds to nab the win for NYIT.
