No. 8 Pace Men’s Lacrosse Bounces Back with Road Win at No. 15 SNHU

MANCHESTER, N.H. – After shouldering just its second loss of the season on Wednesday against defending National Champion No. 2 Le Moyne College, the No. 8 Pace University men's lacrosse team bounced back with an 11-8 victory over No. 15 Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field.
 
FIRST QUARTER
- Both teams were quiet for nearly 12 minutes until junior Michael Pappalardo (Ossining, NY/Ossining) got Pace on the board with 3:03 to go in the first.
- SNHU's Corey Cairo scored just 33 seconds later, but sophomore Vincent Vasheo (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) responded with hit fourth of the year with 47 seconds left in the period to leave Pace ahead, 2-1.
 
SECOND QUARTER
- Juniors Joshua Kreitler (Shelton, CT/Shelton) and Liam Brennan (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) scored just 13 seconds apart from each other early in the second to take a 4-1 lead.
- Pace's advantage grew to four when sophomore Daniel Keenan (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) fired in his second of the season with 10:31 to go.
- Cairo scored again for SNHU with just 2:34 left in the half, sending Pace into the locker room with a 5-2 lead.
 
THIRD QUARTER
- Keenan scored again to open third for the Setters to put them up, 6-2.
- Cairo added his third of the day for SNHU at the 2:13 mark, but sophomore Kevin Vogelsberg (Wantagh, NY/Holy Trinity Diocesan) responded less than a minute later to make it a 7-3 game heading into the fourth.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
- Vogelsberg tallied a man-up goal early in the final frame to make it an 8-3 game.
- Chris West and Cairo scored back-to-back for SNHU to get Penmen back within three.
- Kreitler scored his second of the day at the 9:09 mark, followed by Vogelsberg's third a couple minutes later to put the Setters ahead, 10-5.
- Sophomore Bradley Paterson (Caldwell, NJ/Depaul Catholic) picked up a man-up goal at the 6:11 mark to make it 11-5.
- SNHU netted the last three goals of the game, but there was not enough time left for the home team to mount a comeback.

Goalkeeper Notes
- Junior goalkeeper Robert Beshlian (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) stopped a career-high 21 shots en route to his sixth win of the season.
 
SETTER STATS
- Vogelsberg tallied a team-high three goals in the win.
- Brennan and Paterson each picked up three points on a goal and two assists apiece. Brennan also scooped up a team-high five ground balls.
- Kreitler and Keenan each scored twice on Saturday.
- Pappalardo and Vasheo also scored in the game, while junior Anthony Gadeleta dished out an assist.
- Senior Brandon Donnellan (Chester, NY/Warwick Valley) picked up four ground balls and caused a turnover.
 
PENMEN LEADERS
- Cairo totaled a game-high seven points on six goals and an assist.
- Keifer Heckman scored a goal and passed out an assist for two points.
- Zach Tanner handed out a pair of assists.

- The stretch of big matchups continues for the Setters, as they visit No. 3 Adelphi University on Tuesday, April 11, for another NE10 contest in Garden City, N.Y. The opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
