Kreitler Nets Six Goals to Help Men’s Lacrosse Down Saint Rose

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Freshman Joshua Kreitler recorded a career-high six goals in a 16-8 win over Saint Rose on Wednesday. With the win, the Setters advance to 6-6, 4-5 NE-10 while the Golden Knights fall to 4-8, 3-6 NE-10.

The two teams traded goals early in the first quarter. Freshman Wyatt Barfoot netted the first score of the game on an assist by Tyler Meigel with 13:48 on the clock before St. Rose tied the game just thirty seconds later. Then with 9:30 left in the quarter, Anthony Gadaleta found the back of the net on an assist by Liam Brennan to put Pace back out in front. After the Golden Knights added another score, the Setters rallied for a quartet of goals in the final five minutes of the period. Junior captain Matthew Cossidente assisted on a goal by Brennan before Joshua Kreitler beat the goalkeeper for his first goal of the game. Pace added to their two-goal advantage as freshman Trevor Chernoff and Cossidente each scored goals to end out the quarter. The Setters led 6-2 after the first quarter.

In the first 2:22 of the second quarter Gadaleta added a pair of scores to grab a first-half hat-trick and give the Setters an 8-2 advantage. After St. Rose ended the quarter with a pair of scores, the Setters led 8-4 at the break.

Pace owned the third quarter as they rallied for five straight scores, three by Kreitler. Barfoot scored the first tally with 14:11 on the clock before Kreitler scored back-to-back goals. Cossidente picked up the assist on the first while Barfoot tallied the helper on Kreitler's second. Minutes later, with 6:22 to play in the quarter, Cossidente scored his second of the game on an assist by Meigel. St. Rose added a goal late in the quarter, but Kreitler absolutely exploded offensively in the third period as he added two more scores for a total of four in the third.

The Setters were able to coast to a convincing victory in the fourth quarter. After a Saint Rose goal, Cossidente scored his third to record the hat-trick before Kreitler ripped one passed the keeper for his sixth goal of the game. After a pair of late Golden Knight scores, Pace earned the victory by a score of 16-8.

Kreitler added three groundballs to his game-best six scores. Cossidente recorded five points behind three goals and two assists while Gadaleta added one groundball to his three goals. Barfoot totaled two goals with two assist, five groundballs, and one caused turnovers. Brandon Donnellan scooped up four groundballs while causing two turnovers. Matt Ruquet was solid on the draw, winning 17-25 faceoffs while grabbing a game-best 11 groundballs.

Senior Michael Bonitatibus was dominant in net, allowing seven scores while making 15 saves. Chris Saar played 3:00 between the pipes and allowed one goal with one save while Conor Brophy played 3:54 of action in net.

The Setters return to the field on Saturday, April 18th when they host Saint Michael's for senior day at 12:00 p.m. on Pace Field in Briarcliff, N.Y.
