Men’s Lacrosse Falls to #5 Adelphi 13-10

GARDEN CITY, NY-  Freshmen Wyatt Barfoot and Liam Brennan each netted four points as the Setters came up short to #5 Adelphi 13-10 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters fall to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the NE-10, while the Panthers improve to 6-1 and 4-1 in conference play.

Adelphi netted three early goals to take an early lead but the Setters answered with a pair of goals late in the opening quarter. Barfoot netted two goals in the latter part of the first quarter to cut the Panther lead to 3-2 after one quarter of action.

Adelphi opened the second quarter with four goals to pull ahead 7-2 but the Setters countered with two goals. Trevor Chernoff and Anthony Gadaleta scored to make it a three goal game but the Panthers tacked on two late goals to lead 9-4 at halftime.

It was a relatively quiet third quarter with the teams each netting a goal as Peter Sharp netted the man-down tally for Pace in the third. The scoring picked up in the fourth as Adelphi scored man-up to extend their lead to 11-5.

The Setters rallied with three goals in a row to close the gap. Tyler Meigel and Dan Hanson scored, while Brennan scored on the power play to slice the score to 11-8. Adelphi netted a pair but Pace finished with a pair of goals by Michael Pappalardo and a down goal by Brennan with seconds left on the clock.

Barfoot and Brennan both finished with two goals and two assists to lead the Setters, while Sharp totaled one goal and one assist. Michael Bonitatibus played all 60 minutes in net for Pace, recording 12 saves.  

The Setters return to action on Saturday, March 28 when they will host Franklin Pierce in an NE-10 match-up at Ossining High School.
