NORTH ANDOVER, MA- The #14 Pace men's lacrosse team fell to #6 Merrimack 14-4 in their Northeast-10 Conference opener.
The Setters fall to 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in the NE-10, while the Warriors improve to 4-0 and 3-0 in conference play.
Merrimack took an early lead with a pair of first quarter goals. Freshman
Wyatt Barfoot got the Setters on the board early in the second quarter with a goal off an
Anthony Gadaleta assist. The Warriors answered with a pair of goals but Barfoot netted his second of the day off a
Tyler Meigel assist to cut the Merrimack lead to 4-2 at halftime.
The Warriors scored early in the second half but the team traded goals off the ensuing faceoffs as
Matt Ruquet netted the Pace goal.
Brandon Donellan scored at the 6:47 mark of the third quarter to cut it down to 7-4. Merrimack kept the Setters off the board the rest of the way while they added seven more goals over the final 18 minutes of play.
Barfoot netted a pair of goals for the Setters, while
Michael Bonitatibus recorded 18 saves in 60 minutes in net.
The Setters host Saint Anselm College on Saturday, March 21 at 12 pm.
