Barfoot Nets Eight Points as Men’s Lacrosse Upsets #10 Dowling 16-8

OAKDALE, NY-  Freshman Wyatt Barfoot tallied eight points as the Setters upset #10 Dowling 16-8 on Saturday afternoon. The Setters improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Golden Lions fall to 1-2.

The Setters got off to a strong start as Dan Hanson scored two early goals for Pace. The Golden Lions got on the board but Pace went on a four goal run to end the first quarter. Matthew Cossidente extended the Setters lead, while Liam Brennan, Joshua Kreitler and Christopher Brown pushed the Pace lead to 6-1 after one quarter.

Dowling scored early in the second quarter but the Setters rallied with three more goals in the quarter. Tyler Meigel added to the Pace advantage, while Brennan and Cossidente each scored their second of the day as the Setters led 9-2 at halftime.

The Golden Lions scored a goal early in the second half but the Setters answered with five straight goals. Meigel netted his second of the day, while Barfoot tallied a pair, including a man-up tally. Trevor Chernoff scored late in the third quarter, while Peter Sharp put the Setters 14-3 early in the fourth quarter off a Barfoot assist.

Dowling tallied four unanswered goals to close the gap to 14-7 but the Setters added two goals in the final six minutes of play. Barfoot scored one and added an assist on Brennan's third goal of the day.

Barfoot led the way for the Setters with three goals and five assists, while Brennan added three goals. Meigel, Cossidente and Hanson each finished with two goals each. Michael Bonitatibus played the enter game in net for the Setters and recorded six saves.

The Setters return to action on Wednesday, March 4 as they travel to Dominican College for a non-conference game at 4 pm.
