Hackett Drops First Career Double-Double in Win over New Haven

Box Score PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University women's basketball squad earned their first Northeast-10 Conference victory on Saturday, defeating New Haven 63-59. Senior Margo Hackett scored 13 points and brought in a career-best 11 rebounds to help lead the team to its first win this season. With the win, the Setters improve to 1-3, 1-1 NE-10 while the Chargers drop to 3-1, 1-1 NE-10.

The Setters scored the first points of the contest on a Gabriella Rubin triple to take the early 3-0 lead. Following a New Haven run, an Alexa Dietrich layup and a Jaclyn Oskam basket from distance knotted things at 8-all. With 10:05 remaining in the opening half, the Setters began a 9-0 run as Hackett, Oskam, and freshman Jordan Cunningham each scored a trio of points. Hackett added five more points before the conclusion of the first half and the Setters took a 34-32 lead into the locker room.

New Haven came out hot in the second half, but the Setters maintained their composure and went on a 15-2 run at the 13:36 mark that began with a Hackett three-pointer. The story of the run was Kirsten Dodge who found her stroke in the second half. She scored six of the 15 points and capped the pivotal Setter run with a layup to put Pace back on top, 52-45. After the Chargers cut the deficit to just two with 6:15 remaining, Dodge put in another layup to increase the lead to four. Pace held a three point lead with six seconds remaining in the contest when Oskam went to the charity stripe and converted on a free throw. The clutch shot made it a two possession game and sealed the victory for the Setters.

Hackett added a team-best six assists to go along with her 13 points and 11 rebounds. Dietrich scored 12 points and pulled down three rebounds while Oskam added nine points and five boards. Rubin converted on 3-6 from downtown to help her post 11 points while adding four rebounds and three assists. Dodge recorded eight points and three rebounds.
Pace returns to the court in a road contest on Tuesday when they take on NE-10 rival Southern Connecticut at 5:30 pm.
