Lacrosse Falls to Saint Anselm

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.– William Scioscia (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata) (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata) totaled five points as the Pace Lacrosse team fell to the Hawks of Saint Anselm College 15-10 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters fall to 5-8 overall and 2-8 in the NE-10, while the Hawks improve to 4-8 overall and 4-6 in conference play.

The teams traded goals to start the game as Matt Mirabito (Binghamton, NY/Broome CC) (Binghamton, NY//Broome CC) scored the Pace goal in the five six minutes of  play as the Hawks took a 2-1 lead. The Setters closed out the quarter with four unanswered goals as Matt Gebhardt (West Islip, NY/West Islip) (West Islip, NY/West Islip) netted a trio with Scioscia scoring one in the run as Pace lead 5-2 after one quarter. Saint Anselm scored six goals in the second quartet with Scioscia accounting for the lone Pace tally as the Hawks took an 8-6 lead into halftime.

Scioscia scored off the second half face-off to pull the Setters back to within a goal at 8-7 eight seconds into the third quarter. The Hawks answered with four straight goals to extend out to a 12-7 lead midway through the quarter. Pace rallied with three goals in row to battle back to a two-goal deficit early in the fourth quarter. Mirabito and Gebhardt scored unassisted, while Matthew Cossidente (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) capped the run off a Scioscia assist on the power play to pull the Setters back to trail by two at 12-10 with 12:46 left in the game. The Hawks netted three goals down the stretch and kept Pace off the board the rest of the way.

For Pace, Scioscia finished with three goals and two assists, while Gebhardt tallied four goals in the game. Mirabito totaled two goals and two assists for the Setters.  In net, Conor Brophy (Pompton Lakes, NJ/DePaul Catholic) recorded 17 saves in 60 minutes of action.

The Setters return to action on Saturday, April 27 when they will host the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University for an NE-10 match-up at 1 pm at Pace Field. Prior to the game, Pace Lacrosse will recognize their graduating seniors for the dedication to the program for their careers.
